When I lived in Santa Barbara and LA I used to lane split all the time on the 405, 5 and 101. Occasionally on the 1. Very common when traffic is at a stand still. I don't recall riding side by side in one lane being legal, but I may be confusing it too AZ where at the time it was not legal and I rode there a lot. CO is legal riding side by side in one lane? I thought that was illegal here.
