Yep 2 valves needed adjusting - an extra hour of labor. With the cost of the 12K service, two new tires, replacement front disk pads, new O2 sensors and the valve adjustment...lets just say I could have bought a nice used bike for what I am paying. If only I had an ounce of mechanical knowledge maybe I could have done some of this myself. No idea if the prices at Northern Euro are higher than Erico, but I didn't want to risk driving it down to Denver given the engine light.
Glad it was something relatively easy! Out of curiosity with your 12k service, did your valves need adjusting? From what I've heard/read, newer EFI bonnevilles actually run closed loop for quite a bit more of the throttle range, and some say removing o2 sensors on those 'can' be inadvisable.
Not sure how it relates to speedmasters, but early EFI bonnevilles only use the o2 sensors at relatively low throttle inputs to run in a closed loop system. After about 6% throttle, the ecu switches to open loop and no longer uses readings from the o2 sensors. Some folks contribute the closed loop system to the 'snatchyness' with small throttle inputs, and say removing o2 (and disabling them in your ECU to prevent check engine light) can smoothen out the low speed jerkyness a bit.PS. Everything I said could be a lie, so take it for what its worth. I pulled the o2 sensors on mine with no ill effects from what I can tell.----

Replacement part being ordered, hope to have the bike back soon. Now for a different but related question - I've seen a number of posts from folks who have actually removed their O2 sensors for better performance. Is this advisable? Not that I'm going to do it, just curious if others have...-peltz.

Subject: [emrat:7986] Engine Light
My engine light turned on during my ride back to Denver this morning. I've never had the light turn on my Speedmaster, so just trying to figure out what might be going on.
I was already planning to take the bike in for its 12K service, but if anyone can explain under what circumstances this typically occurs, that would help me.
Thanks.
