Fw: Re: [emrat:10114] Triumphs in Taos Ride down 9/8 - who is going?

OK so that looks like it's just me and Manuel leaving from Morrison, Jim and Dave meeting us in Woodland Park.  Anyone else?

I'll tag along as well, leaving from Parker so join you at Alta.

Yeah, the Mexican place Manuel mentioned is worse than not great, it's pretty terrible.  You will be happy you waited until Taos for Mexican.

Feedstore was pretty good, but it's long gone.  Ranchers Roost also isn't bad for for sandwiches and burgers.

OK, let's finalize the plan:  I'll shoot for being at the Conoco in Morrison at around 8:00 am for gas and coffee.  Would like to be kickstands up at 8:30.  If Jim can join us we'll meet him at the Alta gas station in Woodland Park around 10:00 or so.

Manuel, my range is also ~170 miles.  WP is about 75 miles from Morrison so I'll probably top off there.  Westcliffe is 161 miles from the start, and also has gas.  I'll likely top off in Walsenburg which is 152 miles from WP.  Taos is 126 miles from Walsenburg and of course there is gas in Fort Garland if we need to stop there.  For me, at least, Morrison, Woodland Park and Walsenburg should be the only gas stops I'll need.

I'll be joining you.  I'll be on the Speed Triple, so my range is about 170 miles.  Checked eating options in Westcliffe.  I've eaten at Chappy's before and I don't really remember much about it.  I didn't dislike it.  There is also Tony's Pizza on the east side of town that has pretty good reviews.

The Mexican place across from Chappy's isn't that great, so I would avoid it, given that there will be plenty of opportunity for good Mexican food in Taos.

Hi, everyone.  I've offered to lead the ride down to Taos on Friday, and I'd like to get a tentative headcount as to who might ride along.

Rather than taking the straight-down-US-285 route I'd like to take a less direct but more fun set of roads.  Tentatively my plan would take us to Pine Junction, then down CO 126 to Deckers/Woodland Park, then US 24 and Twin Rocks Road, down through High Park and ending up at CO-9 and US 50 near Royal Gorge,  From there, West to Texas Creek, then South on CO 69 through Westcliffe and Rye, and into Walsenburg, where we'd pick up US 160 West over La Veta Pass and into Fort Garland, and from there South on  CO-159 through San Luis, and NM 522 into Taos.

Google Maps gives me a distance of 350 miles and a riding time of 6:41.  The halfway point would be in Westcliffe so if anyone knows of any good restaurants there I'd like to hear them (I haven't been through Westcliffe in at least a decade or more.)

If that route sounds too ambitious to some, I'm open to suggestions but I would point out that the most direct route - US 285 from Denver all the way to Tres Piedras and then US 64 to Taos - is only 50 miles and 1 1/2 hours shorter (292 miles/ 5:15.)

Anyway, let me know if you plan on riding so I can make sure we don't leave anyone behind.

Since not everybody is on the Google Group I'll post this on FB as well.
