Re: [emrat:10159] Home from Taos

I have 3 younger brothers.  Two of them have pointed out that when I ride with Paul, I usually ride angry.  It might be tires, no rain gear and compaining about getting rained on, or something, its always something

In the last 12 or so years, we have taken 6 long trips.  He has had 3 tires replaced during the rides because the tires were bald.  One tire only made it 100 miles into a 1600 mile trip.

Al, don't I recall you recounting adventures in riding with your brother and the state of his tire? :-)

The motivation came from wondering if my tire was going to make it all the way to Denver.  After stopping in Walsenburg, I was pretty sure the tire would hold up all the way home but taking it easy seemed the way to go.

I did get pulled over just west of Lusk Wyoming with the wife and boy following me.  I got an earful from her at the rest area on I25.  My son told me that when they came up on the patrol car with lights flashing she told him "that better not be your dad."

My guess is that he was motivated by being followed by his wife and son. It's like when you see a police car, except this one follows you home and into your house!

Congratulations on your MPG achievement.  It takes real self-discipline to ride a 955 Triumph at or below the speed limit.  I resort to sharp slaps on the right wrist.

I didn't need to get stung by a wasp but I thought what do I need to close out my 2017 Taos ride?

Either a wasp or a bee, my medical team is now not sure. No evidence was found at the crime scene except the stinger.  I guess no body, no crime.  Liz was able to get the stinger out now I am just dealing with the itching.

I did learn that an 01 Sprint 955 ridden at or below the speed limit will get 60mpg.

We made it home about 5pm after a stop in the Springs for a wasp sting.  The tire held up fine and looks about the same now as when I left Taos.
