Hi Martin,

I have a '06 955i bought new Oct 06 and traded in April '14.  I put over 12K on it as it had a stablemate of a Ducati ST2. I alternated taking them on trips, commuting etc... over the years so that is why the lower milage.

Good parts of the 955i
- Seat height - I am 6' 2" and getting my leg over the seat was not an issue, though it was high. Some people this is an issue. For you I doubt it.
- Suspension - basic and good. Soaked up bumps and undulations well. Always felt planted in the corners. Allowed me to look at parking lot or road speed bumps and fun instead of annoyances. 
- Range - 6.5 gal tank sits high. I get ~220 miles and still have a few miles before going dry. 
- Handle bars are wide allowing great input for steering. Not a lot of vibrations. I liked the height of them also.
- Air protection was good and did reduce rain hitting the middle of my chest and down. During the summers in NC, where I lived with the bike, I would take my Duc more to get more air over my suit's vents due to the screen coverage. I don't think that would be an issue here due to the lack of humidity.
- Power - Pick a gear, pick an RPM, the bike would pull. From standing start into a left hand turn it would lift the front wheel without an issue if I was trying to get into a smaller space in traffic until I got used to the bike.
- Stock hard side bags - due to the single wide pipe the right bag was smaller than the left. Good quality bags, never leaked.
- Stock tail case - I had the large case with the optional back pad for a pillion. Very good size, fit my laptop back, 4 extra pairs of gloves, a soft sided small cooler for lunch, maps, two 12" adjustable wrenches for chain adjustments, chain wax, can of pledge (for cleaning helmet) and some other crap. Without all the crap it easily stored a Shoei XL helmet with room left over.  
- Commuting on the highway I would get mid 40mpg. Back roads due to I guess heavier gravitey :-) I would get 36'ish.

Bad
- Tank is high and at slow speed or pushing with a full tank you can feel the weight. Once moving it was not an issue.
- Behind the right foot peg there was a heat shield to prevent your foot from hitting the pipe. My size 14's didn't like this as it was placed where my heel wanted to be. When cruising along I would set my heel on top of this.
- Center Stand not standard. I bought and put on a center stand from Triumph. I like having one for chain adjustments and working on the bike. So easily correctable imo.

Really if the worst I can say about the bike is the annoying heat shield, I think that says lots of good things.

Maintenance was not an issue for what I did, i.e. oil changes, tires, sprockets and chain. 

I really enjoyed the bike and seriously thought about the Tiger 1200 when I was looking in '14.

I like my BMW R1150R but I am thinking of moving up to something a little newer and with lower mileage, and it would be nice to have another Triumph.  The Tiger 800's are still out of my price range but from what I've seen the TIger 955i and 1050 should be in my sub-$5k price range pretty easily.  

For those who have had either or both, what are the pros and cons?  I'm looking for a bike to replace my R1150R Roadster so basically looking for a big displacement, "naked" style bike (the bikini fairing on the Tiger is OK with me) that is capable and comfortable for long distance rides of 500 miles or more and has the ability to carry a decent amount of luggage (hard cases preferred.)
