Subject: Training of volunteers to attend IEP meetings

Date: Saturday, September 8, 2012
Time: 9:00am – 4:00 p.m. (registration begins at 8:45am)
Location:  St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 1280 Vine St., Denver, CO
 
The goal of this training is to create a cadre of trained parent/professional volunteers that would be available to attend IEP (Individualize Education Plan) meetings with parents when they have requested support. There is a huge need in the community for this service, and we are eager to train more volunteers. We have included professionals as participants who have a passion to help families at these important meetings.
 
The training will be limited to the first 15 qualified participants. The following requirements are asked of participants:
 
Parent of a child with a disability/Professional that works with child with disability
Experience attending IEP meetings
Interest in advocacy
Strong communication/listening skills
Open-minded
Strong problem solving and negotiating skills
Dependable and commitment to follow through
Experience with other cultures/bilingual a plus
