I'm up on Vashon Island in the South Puget Sound with my girlfriend, Madie.

 

I just rode an early 1980s BMW R65 that I took out for its first spin in a year since a friend had bought it.  It's a pretty cool bike, black, of course, with a two-into one-aftermarket exhaust that just burbled when I rolled off the throttle.

 

Riding around Vashon—yes, Mr. Warfield, the site of the secretive but famous "Isle of Vashon TT" at the end of the summer, as you know—I felt like I was channeling my inner Lawrence of Arabia with the small paved roads, the curves and hills and forest on both sides of the road.

When I returned the bike to my friend, however, he told me that he was going to sell it as he has a medical (heart) condition and doesn't think he'll ever regain enough strength to be able to ride again.  Which made me sad to hear as he's a great guy.

 

Then, when I told Madie about Steve wanting to sell it, she asked:  "Are you going to buy it?"

 

Gee . . . . . I had not thought about that!  J

Thanks for the responses to let Denise and I know who will be going with us to Steamboat this weekend. Below you will find the list of who has responded so far.

 

The last I checked the weather is looking good. However, I recommend wearing cold weather riding gear because it could be chilly going over the passes. Denise and I will see everyone Saturday morning.

Manuel Baca - may ride Saturday as Wayne is doing

Norman Wright- ride through lunch but then head off to Summit County, not go on to Steamboat
