St. Cajetan’s Center on the Auraria Campus
9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Featuring Keynote Speaker
Dr. Donna Beegle
Donna M. Beegle, Ed.D. is an authentic voice who speaks,
writes and trains across the nation to break the iron cage of
poverty. Donna brings unique insights from having grown
up in generational poverty in America and of studying poverty
for more than 20 years.
Born into a family where no one was educated beyond
the eighth grade, for generations her family had subsisted
on menial-wage employment and migrant work. Although they worked hard,
they were constantly evicted, hungry, and struggling with poverty. By age 15
she
had dropped out of school, married, and worked in a foam rubber factory. At
25 she had two children and was divorced and homeless. Then through a
community college program she earned her GED, then her associates degree,
followed by her bachelors, Masters and ultimately her Ph.D.
Donna is the author of "See Poverty, Be The Difference," and "An Action
Approach to Educating Students Who Live in the Crisis of Poverty."
