RE: [emrat:4840] Triumphs in Taos - Saddlesore 1000?

Jeff, if I'm doing a saddlesore, scenery is not a primary concern, since I won't be stopping to smell the flowers anyway.

Here is another route I just worked up - would be MUCH more scenic but a little higher up the "difficulty scale": Taos to Farmington to Grand Junction to Vernal to Rock Springs to Cheyenne and then Denver. 1034 miles.

https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=taos,+nm&daddr=farmington,+nm+to:grand+junction,+co+to:vernal,+ut+to:rock+springs,+wy+to:rawlins,+wy+to:41.1165642,-104.8727253+to:denver,+co&hl=en&ll=38.899583,-103.40332&spn=7.351306,14.227295&sll=40.853293,-105.165253&sspn=0.893314,1.778412&geocode=FdCHKwIdNhW1-Smx_BF_2mQXhzGCt6lhg5HqkA%3BFfpsMAIdwraM-SnHfgytAI87hzEaTlM7trEjyA%3BFT4RVAIdB6aH-SlXcOci49ZGhzFWfL_OUfRjzA%3BFVxNaQIdVLl4-SmLj8GjR2JFhzHcJMG7bwCkog%3BFQiTegIdKLJ9-SkZi8L16FhahzFwNzAngf4lBw%3BFV6ufQId-aqb-SkJ3vRPlU5chzET_JW_aqQgPA%3BFZRjcwId68S_-SnPtdH0LzBvhzGeOLXDlTSoIQ%3BFd9YXgIdcg---SnPFx8jqoBrhzHWNoon-PSOEQ&mra=dpe&mrsp=6&sz=10&via=6&t=m&z=7

#yiv7420042637 Martin,

You've gotta take Hwy
14 from Sante Fe down to Albuquerque. This way you go
through Madrid - a great place to go
through for motorcycles and more scenic than being on I25.

Deer Country after dark. Since Deer aren't as numerous
out on the plains as they are in the mountains, I figured a
Plains route would be somewhat safer (this is why, for
example, I didn't choose a route that had us going West
towards Flagstaff and then returning via US 160 and US 285.
While that would be more scenic it would also, IMO, be more
dangerous especially after dark.)

as possible which is why this route does not go up I-25.
I've been in too many slow-moving traffic jams on I-25
between Pueblo and Fort Collins to want to risk that.
