RE: [emrat:4887] Facing Those Saturday Chores?

Okay Tin, I missed the start of this thread, what did you buy? I made my 1000 yesterday on my R 1200 R from Little Rock to Denver, including a lost hour in KS waiting for a storm to pass thru at a rest area. I actually drove the bike up onto the east side of the covered brick rest facility. A big tree near one of the picnic tables broke in half. I can see why Dan left those wind blown plains. I left at 4:30 am and got in at 10:00 on Denver time. Stopped for all 3 meals and drove 70-80 most of the time.

Interesting you should say that… Yesterday I took a 500mile ride (checking to see if I could ride that bike for extended periods before mine & Iron-Butt Steve's road trip to Oregon next month) .  Anyway I was in rural Wyoming with no one around and a nice straight stretch of road ahead of me – so I decided to open it up a bit… I hit somewhere between 120 & 130mph (a lot less than the claimed 186 on that bike) but at that speed the world is just going by entirely too fast, everything is blurry and all you can do is hope no animal jumps out in front of you & hope no law enforcement officer is waiting to take you to jail… I have complete respect for Michael Dunlop and all those IOMTT riders (even though they are completely nuts).

 

As for the BMAC meeting this morning – I was originally going to ride my Rocket down but after the ride yesterday I decided I needed to jump back on the BMW to see how much pain I will be in on day 2 of my upcoming Oregon road trip.  After the 500miles yesterday I'm beginning to understand why most of the motorcycle manufactures are not producing "Sport Touring" bikes any more – They are pretty tough on 50 year old bodies L
