They are so good that BMW themselves tried to replace them with the introduction of the K bikes.  

The Airhead was the last of the truly air cooled boxers though and I believe the last of those was '93.

Otherwise the boxer is a low revving, low center of gravity, smooth, but conservative engine.

I just could not get on with it myself.  I tried the old GS, I tried the new LC GS three separate times.  Just didn't care for it, as much as I tried to
convince myself otherwise.  It was lacking a certain something.  Character maybe?

I remember Huc having to add thermal shields under his seat with one of the Sprints. So that was an "even at speed" heat issue. I stewed on the Trophy more times than I'd like to admit although that were more an issue when traffic slowed.
