I've not given at this time much thought, Doc, to which route. But I'm leaning towards the "Dancing with Wolves," High Plains ride from Fort Morgan northwards to the Black Hills. I usually return on the traditional route, Newcastle-Lusk-Torrington-Cheyenne on US 85. So, it's nice to ride up one way and return another.

What route were you riding this year Dan?
And which route were you taking Norm?
Dan from our E-mail's yesterday you know my situation (pending further review) so I will be chiming in later with my final plans. But currently I am looking to go up on the 31st and possibly return on Aug 4th. But my wife's uncle is riding up from Florida and could change my plans depending on his final agenda. Would be great if I could get his crew to coordinate with us riding up one of those days.

Norm Wright and I announced our riding plans for Sturgis at the last EMRAT Meeting.
I'm planning on heading up on Thursday, July 30th, and tentatively returning on Monday, August 3rd.
Norm and Vince Lane (who rides a BMW now and has gone every year with Norm since 2008) are planning on riding up on Friday, July 31st.
In the attached 2008 photo, you will see "Stormin' Norm" Wright, "Chainsaw Jim" Maharis, Denise Wendl, and Vince on the far right. Peaking over the seat is "Librarian Linda," Denise's friend, whose last name I've forgotten . . . .
We will be staying at the Creekside Campground.
If you might want to ride with me, just reply to me directly at dpil...@cochamber.com
If you might want to ride with Norm and Vince, you can reach Norm directly at low...@gmail.com
Or, perhaps some of you (Jay Clawson, needing more photos for his forthcoming "Sturgis Biker Bar Babes" book) may just meet us up there. Just let Norm and me know.
I first went up by myself in 2005. Over the years, I've accumulated some files about logistics and rides, etc., which I can send you directly if you are interested but have never attended the Rally.
And—not to be morbid, but I was once a police reporter in Colorado Springs many years ago—I have accumulated for each year a file that has a compilation of stories from The Rapid City Journal about accidents, crime, etc. I probably will not share such files with anyone who has not yet ridden to Sturgis . . . . otherwise, you might get the wrong idea about the Black Hills Motorcycle Rally!
This will be the 75th Rally, the Silver Jubilee. You can always wait and ride to the 100th Rally, I guess.
