Re: [emrat:6530] New Tires for my Bonneville

Hey Tavis,

I have been running Michelin Pilot Activs on my T100 Bonneville and I think they are a great tire. More of a road tire and they handle very well in all conditions wet and dry. The Pilot Activs wear really well too. I have been getting around 10K miles out of them consistently. I have ridden the dirt portion from Sherwood to Deckers and they did just fine although that dirt section is fairly mild. Of course the Bonnie is not really designed for off road riding but it will handle maintained dirt roads without too many issues.

I hav‎e the Michelin Anakee 3's on my Tiger and I have been pleased with them as well. They handle well in wet and dry conditions like the Pilot Activs. Again, more of a road tire in my opinion but they perform well on the dirt too. These also have given me around 10K miles. I don't have any experience with them on a Bonnie but I have read that some people run them and seem very satisfied. I don't find them noisy although I have read reports others do.

I don't know what you plan on riding off road but the Bonnie will be somewhat limited. As long as you ride maintained dirt roads you would be fine on either tire.

Regardless of what tire you decide on remember Johnny at Erico will price match. Plus if you purchase from them they will mount and balance front and rear for like $70.00.

Subject: [emrat:6530] New Tires for my Bonneville

It's getting to be riding season again and in preparation I was looking at some new tires. I wanted to get some opinions on what would makes a good tire choice.

I have two ways to do this. I can get some dual sport type tires and have the ability to do some dirt roads, perhaps brave all the dirt by Deckers.
The other option is to get some good road turing tires and go the distance.

First the road touring tires I found:

  • Metzeler ME888 Triple 8 Marathon Tires.
    • Great reviews
    • Decent prices
    • Good tread life
  • Michelin Commander II
    • Great reviews
    • Even better on price
    • Great tread life
  • Bridgestone Battlax
    • 5/5 star reviews
    • Good on price
    • Can't really find a bad word about them.
  • Other? I am sure you guys have some preferences.

For the more dual sport type tires:
  • Michelin Anakee 3
    • They look to have a nice tread pattern that will do well in off road but not be noisy on the highway.
    • Great wet traction
    • Good tread life
    • Ok on price
  • Bridgestone Trail Wing 101 ( What I have now)
    • I have found them to be noisy on the highway
    • More than the Anakee on price.
  • Other? I could always go crazy like Justin and put some big dirt tires, but thats already been done!

I am kind of favoring the ME888's or the Anakee's but it's a tough choice.

Also how much life do all you guys get out of a set of tires? Since I got the bike used, and there are no records of when the tires were changed from stock so I don't really know how many miles are on these ones. I do know I put about 4.5K on them myself last year so they are not worn out yet, but I wouldn't mind replacing them early if I find the right replacements.

I talked to the guys at Erico as well as Performance Cycle and both have pretty good prices on everything and have decent install prices. I don't have the garage space to change them out myself so a good recommendation on install is always welcome as well.

I look forward to any and all comments you guys have!
