Dear Nighthawk,

We are looking forward to your attendance at New Student Orientation (NSO) on Saturday, April 25th.  Check-in time for our NSO attendees is 9:00 AM at Hoag Student Center.   There will be signs and Orientation Leaders in blue polos directing you where to go.  Here are a few tips for the day:

1.     Schedule – A NSO Student and a NSO Parent & Family schedule is attached. Much of the day students and guests are together. However, there are a few times when the two groups are separated.  One of these times is during advising and registration.  Guests are not allowed in the advising rooms or registration labs. Please help us to respect the FERPA rights of all of our orientation attendees!

2.     Parking – We will be using the Church Street Parking Deck (parking deck attached to the Recreation Center) for orientation parking. You will not need a parking pass.  You will need to enter the Parking Deck from College Circle via W Main Street on this Saturday.

There is going to be a 5K race the morning of the 25th that is going to impact traffic and close off the main entrance to campus on Chestatee Street. You will have to use the W Main Street entrance in front of Price Memorial Hall (the gold steeple building).

If arriving from GA-400: Take US-19 N/GA-60 toward Dahlonega. Turn left onto Morrison Moore Pkwy / GA-52. (This is the intersection where Dunkin Donuts and Moe's are located).  Continue on Morrison Moore Pkwy toward Dawsonville/Ellijay.  At the next traffic light turn right onto W Main Street. After the traffic light at Sunset Drive, turn right onto College Circle.  The entrance to the parking deck is at the bottom of College Circle.

If arriving from GA-52/GA-9 from Ellijay/Dawsonville: When you reach the traffic light at the intersection of GA-52/GA-9 and W Main Street, turn left onto W Main Street. Drive through the traffic light at Sunset Drive and turn right onto College Circle. The entrance to the parking deck is at the bottom of College Circle.

3.     eCore – You must first complete the eCore quiz if you are interested in taking an online course over the summer or in the fall. Please visit this website before Saturday and complete the eCore quiz: http://ung.edu/ecore/steps-to-register.php

The introduction quiz is the 4th item down.

4.     Learning Communities – We have two learning community options for students interested in taking classes on campus during the second short session. These linked courses are a great way to get an academic jumpstart! Option 1 pairs English Composition (ENGL 1101) with Music Appreciation (MUSC 1100) for 6 credit hours and Option 2 pairs Introduction to Psychology (PSYC 1101) with First-Year Seminar (UNIV 1000) for 5 credit hours.  You can join one of these learning communities today and lock in your summer schedule by completing this google form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1N9eO7m0ZCEpaPPwXxT3oZDXO35udM12okw1hlZ3I28g/viewform?usp=send_form

We will accept the first 22 students into each Learning Community.

5.     Service Project – One of the great things about UNG is our partnership with the local community. Throughout the year we do several service projects to help those in need.  This year we are helping to collect food items for the Backpack Buddies program and school supplies. Please help us by bringing needed items to Check-In.

A list of needed food supplies can be found here:  http://www.backpackbuddiesga.org/food-list

The needed school supplies include: pencils, notebooks, binders, bookbags, kindergarten mats, USB Drives, etc.

Catch the Nighthawk spirit and help us support our local youth! #HAWKEM!

Again, we're looking forward to having you on campus and as a member of the Nighthawk community!

See you next weekend!

Sincerely,

Darcy Hayes
