RE: [emrat:6724] Salvage title?

Only once with a Triumph, I do confess.

I've learned my lesson and continue to pay penance.

Twice with Hondas back in college, but they don't count . . . no offense to anyone who owns, or has owned, a Honda.

That is a difficult question.  But  I recall even you have been a seller.

Norm, remind me why you would want to sell a bike.  I'm struggling with this concept.

My F800 was a salvage title.  If you are a buyer the key is getting good info on why it was titled and who did the repairs.  For MC it's too easy for insurance companies to declare a total loss so there are good deals out there.  The downside is selling it.  Dealers will not take salvage titles in trade and finance cos won't lend on them so you need cash buyers.  Rule of thumb a salvage title bike  costs 15-20% less than a clean tile one for the same type bike.

Hey, quick question for the group:  Has anyone here ever bought a bike with a salvage title?  I understand salvage does not always mean "wrecked and rebuilt" but it does mean that at some time in the past an insurance claim was filed and the cost to repair was higher than the then-current value of the bike.

Reason I'm asking is every now and then I come across a salvage titled bike for sale that appears to be in good condition and I never know if I'm passing up a potentially good deal or if I should, in the immortal words of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, "RUN AWAY! RUN AWAY!"

Thanks in advance!

Martin

PS:  I understand salvage titles have severely diminished resale value but other than that I'm wondering whether people have had problems getting a title transferred, insurance (liability only), etc.
