Re: [emrat:3566] Re: Looking at a 2009 Bonneville tomorrow, could use some expert advice.

Tavis,

Congrats again on the your purchase.  If you ever have any problems with Foothills let us know.  I have a good relationship with Ben, Noel and Justin.  I am sure others here do as well.

Enjoy your new purchase!!

Update for everyone.

I went to Stele's, and I was not impressed. The 2007 started rough and didn't run right. It sounded like someone took all the baffles out of the exhaust, but badly. I rode it down the street a bit and it was a bit rough all the way around. After I got back I noticed oil around the valve seals and where the cylinder head sits next to the bottom. Not a good sign at all.

I then went to Foothills and rode the 2009. It rode like a dream. Smooth clutch, started right up after 2-3 weeks not being started no problem. Ran through my checklist of stuff to look for and everything looked good. Oil was a good color, break fluid looked good, tires looked good, The whole bike looked really clean and well maintained.
They didn't have the service records after all. Apparently the guy who traded it in did most of it himself. He traded it for a 2003 Bonneville 100th Anniversary Special Edition, and Ben said he wouldn't have parted with it otherwise.

I couldn't walk away, so I am now the proud owner of a 2009 Bonneville T100! Joined the cult fully and bought a leather triumph jacket as well. Expect me to show up to the next meetup for sure!

Thanks for all the bits of advice. I don't think I would have been confident enough to go buy it today without it. Even if I paid a bit of a premium to deal with Foothills I think it's worth it for the honest service I got there. I still think I got a decent price on a really clean and nice bike.
I look forward to all the fun parts of riding and maintaining a bike, my little scooter just wasn't enough anymore.

Now I just need to stare at it in the garage for 3 months... boo. The next sunny day I will take it out and take a bunch of pictures, good ones this time.

Hello to all, this is my first time posting in here. I have only gone to one of your meetups, but that was mostly due to not having a bike.

Tomorrow I am going to go test drive and possible buy a 2009 Triumph Bonneville t100 and wanted to ask a few questions to those in the know. It is at Foothills triumph / bmw in Lakewood. They have all the service records for the bike, and it looks great.

First real question: It has 16K miles on it. That doesn't sound like a lot to me, but I have never bought a used bike before. Is that a lot, and is there anything I should look out for?

What is your experiences with Foothills? They seem great, but that of course is from only one experience talking to a sales guy about a bike I already really like.

Here is a link to some quick phone pics I took while looking at it.

This is going to be my first real bike and am quite excited about it, but I wanted to get the real deal from people who ride these already. Thanks in advance for any advice you guys give me.
