Re: [emrat:3748] Just messing around and found this

I love my 2005 Rocket. It has 36,000+ miles with no issues.

Brandon I wonder if that pain in the wrist is due to the weight on them on a sport bike. All my bikes have been "standards" or cruisers so I never had that riding position that puts so much pressure on the wrists.

Nah my wrists kill me.... I'm 6 and a half feet tall with a large frame. A lot of that weight travels down right to my wrists. That's why I'm looking to get a cruiser. I love the rs and I plan to ride the wheels off it. But looking ahead....probably a rocket...

I think that's something I will have to keep in mind for the next bike I get... I'm not sure how long I will keep the sprint. Looking at maybe getting a cruiser in the next couple years...triumph of course.

CruiserCustomizing has them for 189$.  Seems like a lot, but I found them a lot more sturdy that most of the throttle locks.  The lock can be released by the brake lever (which many don't have) or by a switch on the brakeaway (which means you can also make minute adjustments to the throttle without disengaging it).

In the past (on my previous street triple) I installed a BrakeAway (http://www.brakeawayproducts.com/).  It's a bit more on the expensive side, but a really nice throttle lock (easy to use) that lets go when you pull the brake lever.

Check out the Go Cruise throttle lock while you're at it...best $20.00 I have ever invested on motorcycle stuff!!! Certainly works well and gives your throttle hand  much welcomed relief when clocking miles. I order mine from FastEddy.

Nice. I looked and the crampbuster is the same thing as a throttle rocker. Have you looked into the throttle miester cruise control? I found a guy on YouTube last night that uses a stiff zip tie that he rests on his brake lever for a cruise control.... Interestingly enough I could hear the sound of a beautiful inline triple as he tested it out.

Brandon, a Cramp Buster is a simple cruise-control device.  I've bought them at Performance Cycle for $11.  I think there are other devices on the market, but I've not researched them.

When using the Cramp Buster on my Sprint RS or my 2001 Speed Triple, I can sit up straight, which removes the pressure on the hands, wrists and arms from the aggressive riding position.  But that just makes me more aware of the pain in my knees.

Steve, the veteran Triumph mechanic at Erico's, told me after he had serviced my 955i Daytona: "There are no old-men rear-sets for this bike."  I think that was his way of cheerfully telling me that only young guys should ride sport bikes . . . or that old men who ride sport bikes should not complain about their discomfort . .

Ok. Warfman Already put the risers on it, so that's taken are of... I might put on of those throttle rockers on just to help with the wrists... I never would have thought about the ibuprofen... I'm mainly just going to Spokane. I'm from there and can stay with family.  But there are some greats rides you an take just around there. Some that are so nice AND close that you could probably take a couple trips in a day. Take a morning trip come back for lunch then head back out. I probably wouldn't make it out this year but I want to do some long rides this year to see how my endurance is. I also tried wearing bicycle shorts with the padded nether regions and that seemed to help a lot. And what is a cramp buster?
On Jan 18, 2014 10:33 PM, "Dan Pilcher" <dpilcher@cochamber.com> wrote:
Lots of Ibuprofen!  The only thing that I had done to make the riding position more comfortable was to have Erico's put on handlebar risers, perhaps 1-inch risers.  And I used a Cramp Buster for cruising.  But my knees would hurt after thirty minutes. So I stopped about every hour.  An exercise in the pleasure-pain principle, I guess.  The pleasure of riding the Sprint RS that far was offset by the pain of riding it that far.  The worst was the 650-mile day from Challis ID to Ellensburg WA.  But I rode some fantastic highways through incredible country, and I would do it again in a heartbeat!

Yeah its definitely not a city bike! I actually had a few questions for you...I'm throwing around the idea in my head about taking a trip to Washington on my RS. Probably straight shooting it to Spokane through Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. I know you took an RS for quite a trip. How did you set up for that?

I guess, Brandon, the answer depends on what you would want to do with the bike.  It's big, powerful and heavy.  But I've never ridden one.  Seems like it would be a good bike for long-distance touring.  But it could be a chore muscling it around in urban traffic.  I think the only person still active on the EMRAT Google group who had one of those is John McDonough, so perhaps he could weigh in.  I'm just not sure how many miles you can put on those bikes.  But I would guess it has another 40,000 miles or more left in her.  Finally, that appears to be an interesting color, which I've never seen before.  Plum?
