Job AnnouncementThe Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition (CIRC) is a statewide membership-based coalition of immigrant and ally organizations founded in 2002 to build a unified statewide movement to advance and defend justice for immigrant and refugee communities in Colorado and the U.S. CIRC achieves this mission through capacity building, leadership development, and member-led civic engagement, organizing, and advocacy to win humane, equitable, and workable public policies.CIRC envisions a world where all Coloradans—regardless of immigration status, race/ethnicity, color, national origin, gender, gender identity/expression, sexual orientation, disability, marital status, age, religion, military service, language—are treated with dignity and respect and have equal access to fair and just work, housing, health care, education, and the opportunity to live united with family members.Communications and Membership Coordinator Position SummaryCIRC is seeking a full-time Communications and Membership Coordinator (Coordinator) to strengthen the visibility and communications capacity of the CIRC membership and the internal coalition communications and relations. This position will support members to speak to a range of stakeholders, including media, and ensure CIRC’s social media presence is consistent and engaging. In order to influence public policy, the Coordinator will make CIRC and its membership go-to experts for the media. The Coordinator will drive more pro-immigrant messages in Colorado print, TV, radio and online outlets by making sure member stories touch all Coloradans.
To help CIRC build our statewide movement, the Coordinator will ensure CIRC members are connected and informed about the work of the coalition and of our national partners. The Coordinator will oversee and track and the delivery of benefits and customer service through internal member communications and relations. The Coordinator will participate in both the Organizing Team and the Development and Finance Team to help bridge the organizing and fundraising work. Enhancing and supporting fundraising and development through communications will be a central pillar of the Coordinator’s work. This is a full-time, exempt position that reports to the Director of Campaigns and Membership, and will also work closely with the Director of Development for fundraising communication goals.In order to succeed, the candidate for this position must be a highly motivated, results-oriented self-starter. The ideal candidate will be a problem solver, have routinely figured out creative solutions to difficult problems, and be committed to the concepts of equality and diversity. The candidate must have experience with diverse immigrant and refugee communities in Colorado.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Strategy and Member Support
- Work closely with Organizing Team and Development Team to chart acommunications course for organizing and fundraising campaigns, and help ensure alignment between organizing and fundraisingcommunications.
- Work with Organizing Team to plan and facilitate trainings oncommunications and messaging for members.
- Develop bulletins and education/advocacy outreach materials tocommunicate campaign and coalition info to members, supporters and donors.
- Support with Denver office teamwork.
- Drafting and Pitching
- Work closely with CIRC members to provide members opportunities to increase their organizations visibility through media exposure.
- Manage rapid response, knowing when and how to identify the most effective and appropriate spokesperson on an issue.
- Ability to successfully place stories in various forms of news media.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with media. Build media lists by statewide regions.
- Serve as CIRC spokesperson when needed.
- Web/Social Media/IT
- Manage website content, e-blasts and information campaigns.
- Manage CIRC member and supporter database.
- Design and implement a social media strategy, including an effective and consistent Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, blog, and/or other.
- Ensure adequate IT support and infrastructure.
- Provide web support to deportation resistance cases (drafting petition language, blasting action alerts, promoting on social media, etc.)
- Fundraising
- Participate in Development and Finance Team to help ensure alignment with Organizing Team.
- Support the Development and Finance Team with the communicationsaspects of development and fundraising plans.
- Achieve annual individual fundraising goal associated with the Coordinator position, comparable to goals that all CIRC staff participates in.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Belief in and understanding of CIRC’s mission and vision.
- Knowledge of immigration and related policies and issues.
- Candidates must have 3-5 years of related communications experience.
- Experienced writer comfortable in both short and long formats and writing on deadline.
- Well versed in social media (Twitter, Facebook, blog, Instagram, other).
- Some experience with Adobe Suite platforms, Wordpress, Salsa, VAN, and/or other CRM on-line constituent engagement tools.
- Demonstrated ability to relate to and work with diverse communities and coalitions.
- English and Spanish language proficiency required. Experience and language proficiency with other diverse Colorado immigrant and refugee communities encouraged.
- Thoughtful leader and partner to progressive organizations.
