Curtis, I just can’t resist replying to your questions!  J   And Norm will probably reply also.

I think Norm posted some time ago that he’s going to search out a new campsite.  Perhaps someone in his group can email you directions once they have set up camp.  Or they can leave a map for you at the main building for you to pick up when you check in.

Creekside is actually a well-groomed pasture—but no cow patties—and a lot of cottonwood trees.  Thus, there are no dedicated camp sites.  You just find a spot under the trees and pitch your tents and open the cold beers.  It would only take you about ten minutes to ride around the campground so it’s pretty easy to find people

Actually, quite a few Harley riders don’t ride the posted speed limit.  They seem to set governor on 80 mph up I-25 and then US 85 (Torrington, Lusk, Newcastle).  Knowing this, the WY State Patrol usually has plenty of troopers out in force on the roads leading to the Black Hills and Sturgis.  Fortunately, riders alert each other to the presence of the troopers and sheriff’s deputies.

Given the high lonesome roads of Wyoming, there are plenty of chances to pass slower-moving packs of riders.

Some people ride on up I-25 and cut over on US 20 to Lusk.  But I prefer US 85 to more time on I-25.  There are various ways you can explore the roads of the Black Hills en route to Sturgis, but doing so will probably put you into the campground much later in the day and you can arrive pretty worn out.

I’m more concerned about what you will do when you see your first woman in leather bikini on the back of a Harley.  Especially if the guy is wearing a leather vest that says Hells Angels, Mongols, Bandidos, Outlaws, Sons of Silence, etc.  By the way, body paint passes for clothing in Sturgis.  And it’s not men who wear body paint.

Got my campground reservations for the place everyone recommended. However, I'm not going up until Saturday. Is there any way someone can save me some space and let me know where in the campground to go? Also, what route is everyone taking? It looks like the highway goes straight there, but I don't want to get stuck behind a bunch of speed-limit-observing Harley riders!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Denver to extend season two extra weeks at five outdoor pools

DENVER, CO – Denver Parks and Recreation announced today that it will add two extra weeks to the summer outdoor swimming pool season at Congress, Mestizo, Barnum, Berkeley, and Eisenhower pools. The season, which was originally scheduled to end on August 12, will now extend to August 26 at those five pools.

“With how hot and dry this summer has been, and continues to be, we are really excited we can keep these five outdoor pools open for two extra weeks,” said Lauri Dannemiller, Manager of Denver Parks and Recreation. “This is something we know our residents will be able to take advantage of as the summer winds down.”

The five pools that will remain open are spread out to make sure there is an equitable opportunity for residents to take advantage of the extended schedule. The extension to August 26 will keep the five pools open through the final week that most Denver Public School students are still on summer vacation. The majority of DPS schools start on August 27. Also extended is the special weekend admission program on Saturdays and Sundays where Denver youth under the age of 18 enter for free and Denver adults pay just $1.

Included in the extended schedule, Denver Parks and Recreation will make sure to appropriately staff all pools to provide a safe environment at each pool to handle the maximum capacity allowed by safety code. On weekends, as on weekdays, Denver Parks and Recreation will not allow more people into the pools or pool areas than what is allowed by the established safety regulations.

[CPN] Mayor Hancock Selects Independent Monitor

PRESS RELEASE

                     For Immediate Release

Tuesday, July 31, 2012

City and County of Denver

Mayor Michael B. Hancock

Rowena Alegría, Communications Director

Rowena.Alegría@DenverGov.org
Amber Miller, Press Secretary

Amber.Miller@DenverGov.org

O: 720.865.9095

Mayor Hancock Selects Independent Monitor

DENVER – Mayor Michael B. Hancock today announced the selection of Nicholas E. Mitchell, Esq. to be Denver's next Independent Monitor, pending City Council confirmation.

Mitchell will be responsible for actively monitoring and participating in investigations of sworn personnel in the City and County of Denver's Police and Sheriff Departments.

"Strengthening the relationship between our residents and our safety officials is one of my highest priorities, and the Independent Monitor plays a vital role in that process," Mayor Hancock said. "Nicholas will bring a judicious eye and investigative wherewithal to the position, traits we are working to instill at all levels of the civilian oversight process. He will aid in providing transparent, balanced and swift resolution to our disciplinary actions, and ultimately help make Denver a safer city."

The Office of the Independent Monitor was created to provide fair and objective oversight of the Denver Police and Sheriff's Departments. As the Independent Monitor, Mitchell will make recommendations to the Manager of Safety, Chief of Police and Director of Corrections regarding disciplinary action as well as broader disciplinary policy issues.

"I'm greatly honored to have been selected by Mayor Hancock to take on this important position," Mitchell said. "This is a unique opportunity for a fresh approach when it comes to investigating cases of alleged misconduct. I will work to ensure that investigations are conducted aggressively but fairly, to foster transparency in the process and to help strengthen relationships between the public and Denver's safety departments."

Mitchell currently works as a federal and state commercial litigator at Silver & DeBoskey in Denver, focusing on complex commercial, real estate and employment matters. Before joining Silver & DeBoskey, Mitchell was a litigator at Allen & Overy, a large international law firm, where he litigated securities class-action lawsuits and U.S. Department of Justice and U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission investigations.

Prior to his career in private practice, Mitchell served as an investigator for the New York City Civilian Complaint Review Board, supervising a team of investigators responsible for investigating alleged police misconduct.

Mitchell is a past co-chair of the ABA White Collar Crime Committee Newsletter and is fluent in Spanish. He received his Juris Doctorate from Fordham University School of Law, NY, and his Bachelor of Arts degree from Evergreen State College, WA.

Selection Process:

The Independent Monitor Screening Committee was composed of the following individuals: Dr. Mary Davis, Chair of the Citizen Oversight Board and President/CEO of McGlothin Davis Inc.; Dr. Joseph Sandoval, Professor of Criminal Justice and Criminology at Metropolitan State University of Denver; Paul Lopez, District 3 Councilman for the City and County of Denver; Judge Claudia Jordan, Denver County Court Judge; and Dr. Nita Mosby-Henry, Director of the Career Service Authority.

The Screening Committee began its work in January 2012.  An offer was extended to an individual from the initial pool of candidates. The offer was declined, and on May 11, the Mayor requested that the Committee reconvene in order to forward additional candidates. The Committee reinitiated the national application process.

The application submission period closed June 10. The Committee then reviewed and evaluated applications, contacted applicants, set and conducted interviews, and selected final candidates for consideration. Next, the City's Career Service Authority performed due diligence of the final applicants and a community forum was held to introduce the candidates to Denver residents. The Mayor conducted interviews and made his final selection from the three finalists last week.

I second all the thanks to those who did so much to make this a great weekend! I had a little bit of throttle in hand on the way home an d managed to catch up with a few of you along the way. Sorry to hear about Ron's predicament and ailment, that sounds very uncomfortable and painful, glad the ER could help out. Many more stories to tell about the ride home, I'm sure.

Hope to see more of the group in Taos.

THANKS T.K. FOR TAKING US OVER THE LONG WAY !

THANKS TIM AND ERIN FOR PUTTING IT TOGETHER !

THANKS "IRON BUTT" STEVE FOR TAKING US TO TELLURIDE !

THANKS TO OUR GREAT CHEF, FRIDAY EVENING !

THANKS TO ALL THE REST OF YOU FOR THE COMRADESHIP !

AS MOST OF YOU KNOW, MY ROOM-MATE RON WAS FEELING POORLY ON SATURDAY, BECAUSE HE COULDN`T URINATE PROPERLY, AND SUNDAY MORNING IT JUST GOT WORSE.

AT BREAKFAST, "IRON BUTT" STEVE AND I CAME UP WITH THE IDEA OF USING A COFFEE STIR STICK AS A TEMPORARY CATHETER, BUT WE KNEW RON WOULD NEVER LET US GET NEAR HIS PRIVATES WITH SOME PLASTIC AND A LITTLE SALIVA FOR LUBE, SO WE DIDN`T FOLLOW THROUGH.

AS IT TURNS OUT WE COULD HAVE SAVED RON ALOT OF PAIN, AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY ALOT OF MONEY, BECAUSE WE ENDED UP AT THE EMERGENCY ROOM IN SALIDA.

A CATHETER WAS PUT IN PLACE, JUST AS STEVE AND I PROPOSED, ONLY POSSIBLY JUST A "TINY BIT" MORE PROFESSIONAL, AND THEY HAD RUBBER GLOVES, SO MAYBE MORE SANITARY ??

WE MADE IT HOME IN THE RAIN WITHOUT FURTHER ADO,  OR PAIN !
