[CPN] Update on Triangle Park Design Charette - REMINDER: unique events on Nov. 1st and 2nd, presented and supported by the CCD No.1!

Dear Community Leaders & Stakeholders,

As always, there' s a lot of progress to share on many different fronts, but first we wanted to present an opportunity to win 10 VIP tickets to Redline's Annual Gala, The Democalypse: An aPolitical Bacchanal, presented by yours truly, The Community Coordinating District No.1!

The tickets will be awarded to the first ten people who can respond to this email answering the question, what new non profit is moving into the Weisco Building at 24th and Park Ave??

Design Charette:
Last Monday the Community Coordinating District No.1 hosted a design charette to develop a final concept design for Eddie Maestas Triangle Park. The response was overwhelming and the room was filled with stakeholders including Judy Montero, Denver Parks & Rec, Public Works, area service providers, neighbors and other members of the public. Stephen Walkup and Josh Geppelt with the Denver Rescue Mission were present and confirmed their continued interest in maintaining their original commitments to the project and the Management Agreement between the Rescue Mission and Parks & Rec. After an examination of existing conditions, physical property goals and programming options, the room broke into groups of 4 and developed their own "best case" scenarios for the park. With a number of great ideas generated a small working group of creative professionals have been charged with the task of moving an integrated concept plan forward. It's the group's goal to refine these practical and creative concepts and have something to share at the CCD's next Board Meeting on November 5th.

Grant Project!:
The CCD No.1 has been approached by Tia Cavendar, of Chase Park Grants, to consider submitting a grant request to the EPA for the USEPA Brownfield Community Wide Assessment Grant. After further review with Lauri Dannemiller and Gordon Robertson with Parks & Rec, the CCD No.1 meets all required criteria and has decided to move forward and pursue this wonderful opportunity. Time is of the essence and we're already working with local stakeholders to increase our chances of achieving this $400,000 grant, which could be used to achieve infrastructure and redevelopment initiatives throughout downtown Denver neighborhoods. This is such a great opportunity and we could not be more excited to have this chance! The cost to prepare this grant has been quoted at $7,500 to $10,000. This could be a great sponsorship opportunity for you or your business. Let us know if you have interest! Things are moving quickly!!

Lastly, John Hayden and other Five Points Stakeholders are hosting another Cultural Potluck or "People on the Plaza" event, Details Below!

Our next event for People on the Plaza at Sonny Lawson will be Dia De Los Muertos on Friday November 2nd.  If you are not familiar with Dia De Los Muertos here is a good website.  http://www3.niu.edu/newsplace/nndia.html

Basically a traditional Mexican celebrations of and for our deceased loved ones.  Think of someone you love who has passed and invite them to the party.  Bring a photo of the person and a favorite food they enjoyed to share.  The festivities will start around 5pm and go through out the evening.

The Plaza will be decorated with Marigolds, and other traditional features for the Holiday including two amazing life size Calaveras (well dressed skeletons), by local Five Points Artist Errol Ceravski.  Errol's float and puppets have been featured in Parades around the World including Rio's Mardi gras.

At 7pm a Mexican Folk Dance troop, Rodarte, will perform. Read about this dance company and you will quickly realize they are the perfect troop to perform on our Plaza.  http://www.coloarts.state.co.us/popup/GreeleyRodarte.htm

In addition to the dishes brought to share, a sustainable Five Points coffee company, Solar Roast, will bring their coffee truck to the Plaza and the first 50 people to bring a photo of a loved one will receive a free Mexican Coffee or Hot Chocolate.  http://www.facebook.com/SolarRoastOntheRoad

This should be an amazing event that highlights the cultural richness of our community.  Please come and invite friends and loved ones.

Many thanks!!
