[emrat:3064] Re: Funeral Escort for a fallen member of RMMRC and Air Force Veteran

Hi again folks,

I realize when I sent this out, that I forgot to include details of the incident.  It has been a tough time for many of us in RMMRC since the incident.

This email, which was provided to your club, from his family fills in the missing details.

Chris was in a motorcycle accident on Saturday, 12 October 2013.  He was airlifted to Swedish Hospital in Englewood.  As always, Chris was wearing full riding gear with a full-coverage helmet.  Initially, it was thought that his injuries were primarily structural and we were prepared for a long recovery.  We were optimistic, already joking that if Chris had to use a scooter, then we would have to make the front end look like a BWM R1200RT.  We had the plan for ramps and were all committed to helping him recover.  However, after two surgeries, he was unable to come out of sedation.  An MRI revealed a serious brain injury that even Chris was unable to overcome.  He passed today, Monday, 21 October 2013, surrounded by his family.

Many of you know that Chris named his motorcycle Rocinante, the name given to Don Quixote's horse.   In many ways, Rocinante is like Quixote's double....he is awkward, past his prime, and engaged in a task beyond his capabilities.  And if you knew Chris, his Rocinante did not share any of those traits.

Funeral arrangements are still being arranged.  We will let the group know the details as soon as we can.  We would be honored for you to be there.  Chris considered you as part of his family.  We would love for group members to ride their bikes as part of the procession, taking Chris from the funeral home to his final resting place.

We thank you for your prayers and positive thoughts over the last week.  Please continue to keep us in your prayers as we all have huge holes in our hearts.  We will also keep you in our prayers.  We know how much he loved all of you.   A man is often judged by the quality of his friends.....Chris had some incredible friends!  He was truly blessed.

Sincerely,
The Spanos Family
