I come from a financial counseling background. I have worked with clients in similar situations. Sometimes if the funds cannot be located to pay the debt in full, the creditor (Housing Authority) MAY be willing support her DHA occupancy if she enters into a plan to pay the debt over time. This can be set up through a third party like a Consumer Credit Counseling Service or perhaps directly with the Housing Authority. Of course, we always want to make sure that the payments are affordable for the client and be sure to ask the Consumer Credit Counseling Service for a low-income-based reduced fee. That is available on a case by case basis. Hope this helps! Good Luck.

I have a client who owes Omaha Housing Authority $1,500. She was just notified that she could receive a DHA occupancy spot if she pays Omaha Housing their money by 10/23. She is currently on TANF (which she didn't get this month due to lacking a piece of information from a former employer). She does not have outside resources. We checked with General Assistance at DDHS, Friends of Man, and Metro caring, none of them will pay back debt. Salvation Army doesn't have money right now. Does anyone know of any other possible resources to access?Lynn Thayer
