Re: [emrat:3544] Looking at a 2009 Bonneville tomorrow, could use some expert advice.

In my opinion, mileage (hi or low) is in the eye of the beholder, and depends on what an individual is familiar with. Sean does not think that 16k miles on a 4-5 year old bike is much, but, he's a guy that rides over 20,000 miles in a year.

On the other hand, I ride frequently, but in short mileage commuting, local fun rides, occasional weekend overnight trips, and infrequent extended cross country rides. So my yearly mileage is a fraction of Sean's, Iron Butt Steve's, or the Wendl's. In fact, my 2005 Tiger doesn't even have 19,000 miles total on it. I tend to think that 16k is somewhat high mileage for an '09 Bonnie. I thought I read somwhere that average yearly mileage for motorcycles is typically about 2000 (or so) miles a year. I guess a lot of it depends on what you own, and where you live in the U.S.

Foothills also has a 2009 Bonneville Black model for sale with only 1400 miles (and its priced just $900 higher.) I would definitely say that is LOW mileage! But there are plenty of examples of comparable Bonnies, in very good condition, with less mileage on them than the T100 at Foothills.

I'm not sure where this $6000 bike falls on the price spectrum, but a one owner private party sale would probably leave more cash in your pocket. Tavis, one nice thing that I hope you are aware of - the 2009 model got fuel injection, all earlier models were carbureted.

Just food for thought as you make your decision. Best of luck to you.

Tavis,

Hi! 16K is not many miles at all for a 2009.  Many of us put more miles than that on our bikes in a year, so that's definitely a low mileage bike with only about 3K a year.

Bonnie's are fairly bullet proof bikes.  Not a lot tends to go wrong with them. The fact that the dealer has all the service records and maintenance is a plus.  As Justin or Terrance for a review of them. See if there have been any issues other than service and normal service bulletins.

I owned a 2007 Bonnie for awhile, and still miss it.  Great bikes.

My wife Sara and I have purchased 7 bikes from Foothills over the years including 5 Triumphs and 2 BMW's.  Noel, Ben and Justin have always worked to take care of me, and did so recently in dealing with Triumph North America with a recent issue I was having with a 2013 Tiger Explorer.  I was more than satisfied with the outcome.

Feel free to mention that you are in the group with Sara and I.

Hello to all, this is my first time posting in here. I have only gone to one of your meetups, but that was mostly due to not having a bike.

Tomorrow I am going to go test drive and possible buy a 2009 Triumph Bonneville t100 and wanted to ask a few questions to those in the know. It is at Foothills triumph / bmw in Lakewood. They have all the service records for the bike, and it looks great.

First real question: It has 16K miles on it. That doesn't sound like a lot to me, but I have never bought a used bike before. Is that a lot, and is there anything I should look out for?

What is your experiences with Foothills? They seem great, but that of course is from only one experience talking to a sales guy about a bike I already really like.

Here is a link to some quick phone pics I took while looking at it.

This is going to be my first real bike and am quite excited about it, but I wanted to get the real deal from people who ride these already. Thanks in advance for any advice you guys give me.
