Present the 2012 Neighborhood Conference
This Saturday, October 13th, a citywide Neighborhood Conference will be held at the Wellington Webb Building. The Neighborhood Conference purpose is to explore and discuss various issues affecting Denver's neighborhoods, learn about resources available to neighborhoods and how to access City services, develop tools to empower residents and grow their neighborhood organizations.
The conference is made possible through partnership between INC and the City & County of Denver. INC President, Larry Ambrose, states, "INC and the City and County of Denver look forward to another successful and productive Neighborhood Conference which will result in stronger, safer and more livable neighborhoods and efficient, effective and responsive municipal government."
The conference begins with a complimentary breakfast and keynote speaker, T Michael Smith, who has a long history of neighborhood involvement and government service in Denver and Colorado. His presentation, Trends in Community/Government Relations, will be followed by a panel who will discuss Perspectives on Neighborhood Involvement in the City Planning Processes.
The general sessions are followed by multiple concurrent sessions from which attendees can choose. Government Round Tables will include the How the Executive Branch Works and How City Council Members Make Decisions and Vote; the Dynamics of Neighborhood Planning will include Trends and Planning for Denver's Aging Population and the Impact on Communities of the New Zoning Code especially with regard to areas of change; Building Leaders and Growing Neighborhood Organizations including Keys to Successful Neighborhood Projects and Issues and Developing a Neighborhood Action Plan; and Transiting Denver will address Alternate Methods of Transportation within the City and Neighborhoods and Connecting People with Public Transportation Within and Between Neighborhoods.
INC's mission is to bring together, inform and empower Denver neighborhood organizations to actively engage in addressing City issues. The Neighborhood Conference is free to all interested Denver residents and everyone is invited and encouraged to attend. Reservations are required by Noon on Friday, October 12. Free parking will be available in the Cultural Center Garage at 65 W. 12th Avenue (next to the Denver Art Museum) and free shuttle service to the Webb Building will be available from 7:00 to 8:30 a.m. Handicap parking will be available around the Webb Building.
