This position reports to: Director of Family Services                  Department: Personal Growth & Learning
FLSA Exemption Status: Full- time, non- exempt
 
General Purpose:  To maintain a safe, caring and healthy environment for our children and families by offering a broad range of activities and resources.
 
Essential Duties/ Responsibilities:
  • Plans and participates in artistic, recreational and educational activities with children daily
  • Assesses family needs and assists with getting these needs met on an on- going basis
  • Uses all agency communication tools effectively to share information and track applicable data
  • Provides crisis intervention for children and families on an as-needed basis
  • Responds to Family Area donor inquiries as needed
  • Keeps the Family Area clean, safe and well- organized.
  • Provides guidance, supervision and support for families and volunteers
  • Works with the families in the learning and implementation of alternative methods of discipline resulting in positive outcomes
  • Observes, supports and affirms positive parenting skills in mothers/ guardians, offering advice and additional parenting resources when necessary
  • Supports and maintains the collaborative relationships with other outside agencies that serve family needs
  • Ensures that all safety standards are met
  • Works in cooperation with all team members of TGP
  • Communicates openly with supervisor about suggestions concerning the Family Area management (including programming), collaborating organizations and members
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Job Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Ability:
  • Bi-lingual – will be required to participate in a skills assessment including but not limited to writing, reading and speaking
  • Must have skills in crisis management
  • Must have proven successful conflict management skills
  • Be highly aware of and respond appropriately to cultural differences
  • Knowledge of  the Denver metro area supports and resources for families
  • Proficiency in computer programs; Word, Access, Excel and Microsoft Outlook
  • Willingness to learn additional computer programs
  • Can pass a background check
  • Must be able to work flexible schedule
 
Education or Formal Training:
  • Education and experience in the field of child development and/or family studies
  • AED/CPR/First Aid Certification a plus
 
Experience:
  • Demonstrates initiative and self responsibility
  • Experience working with women and children experiencing poverty and homelessness
  • Experience with children of various ages from birth to 18 years
  • Experience with children with physical and emotional/behavioral challenges
  • High awareness and standards of environmental health and safety for children
  • Ability to remain organized and switch from one task to another in a constantly changing environment
              
Physical Activities: 
  • Must be able to lift and carry children up to 30 lbs
  • Facilitate and participate in a variety of physical activities with mothers/guardians and children
  • Assist in the maintaining of the physical space of the Family Area ( picking up and sanitizing toys, moving furniture, supplies)

Salary Range: $28,000 - $29,500
