[The Network] New Resource in Denver Supporting Hungry Pets: Animal Haus

Please share this information with the people you serve who may be in need of help to feed their pet(s)!  Please let me know if you have any questions, thank you!

These are unprecedented times. People are working harder than ever but can't seem to make ends meet. More people are on food stamps although the eligibility requirements haven't changed. More people are relying on food banks and soup kitchens to feed themselves. Many have pets and have to make the decision of who is going to eat- their pet or them? Animal Haus provides a pet food pantry to make that decision easy: we temporarily provide food for your pet so that you can focus on you.

Animal Haus Pet Food Pantry (AHPFP) operates a pet food pantry that can only provide as much food as is donated but we strive to meet the needs of all needy pets. Animal Haus does not provide ongoing or permanent food supply for pets. The pet food pantry program provides temporary assistance while families work toward a more permanent plan.

You may apply for assistance from AHPFP if you are a low income resident of Colorado who receives public assistance or are facing financial hardship and finding difficultly feeding your pet(s). To apply:

  1. Submit application to Animal Haus via email to petfood@animalhaus.org or mail to Animal Haus, P.O. Box 140593 Denver, CO 80214.
  2. Upon food distribution or AH discretion, you must provide the following verifications:
  • Current/dated (within the last three months) Documentation/Proof of low income- food stamp, Medicaid, disability, unemployment, TANF, or foreclosure, eviction, or other document approved by AH
  • picture identification with Colorado residency listed (or picture ID and current utility bill in your name at Colorado residence)
  • proof of pet ownership (rabies vaccination, spay/neuter certificate, proof of vaccinations, proof of adoption/ownership, tags/registration, copies of veterinarian records)

After requirements have been met, you will be issued an AH punch card that must be shown, with picture ID and proof of income at each time you receive food from AH.

The pet food pantry is currently mobile; check out the events tab on our website for distribution dates and locations. If you are a homebound senior, it is possible that AHPFP may be able to deliver. We accept referrals from animal control, police departments, social services agencies, food banks and other concerned agencies/individuals or those directly in need. If you need immediate assistance (prior to a distribution date), please contact us via email at petfood@animalhaus.org or phone at (720) 505-4287.
