Roy Blakney of the Rocky Mountain Riders Club, which Sara and I also ride with,  is planning a trip to the MOA and then continuing down the Northern California Coast. I shared Roy's Itinerary with Cathy from the BMW Group yesterday,  but I am not sure what if anything she has done with it.

Roy has planned out several different routes leaving Denver from a two day overnighter in Little America, WY to a 16 day trip that included both the Rally and the Northern Coast.  He has an 8 day and 12 day itinerary also in there.  One spending time at the Rally and not going down the coast (8-day) and one not spending time at the Rally, but meeting them there the last day and headed down the coast (12 day).

RMMRC does pretty much what you describe for the BMW group on these kinds of rides, preferring the break into smaller groups and meet at rallying points for lunch, hotels, evening destinations, etc.  ANY member of EMRAT who wishes to attend is more than welcome to contact Roy and discuss the route with him at (303) 756-2547, or I can try to answer what questions I can.   RMMRC is NOT a brand specific club, so no tattoos, branded gear, or sacrifices to the corporate deity required :)


The Entire 16 day route, which would include the Northern California Coast, is as follows:

Day 1 - July 13th: Denver, CO to Little America, WY
Day 2 - July 14th: Little America, WY to Boise, ID 
Day 3 - July 15th: Boise, ID to The Dalles, OR
Day 4 - July 16th: The Dalles, OR to Astoria, OR
Day 5 - July 17th: Astoria, OR to Florence, OR
Day 6 - July 18th: Florance, OR to Albany, OR 
Days 7&8 -July 19th and 20th: MOA Rally or tour the Oregon coast on your own (riders choice)
Day 9 - July 21st: Albany, OR to Eureka, CA 
Day 10 - July 22nd: Eureka, CA to Calistoga, CA 
Day 11 - July 23rd:  Calistoga, CA to SF/Redwood City, CA
Day 12 - July 24th: Off Bike Sight Seeing day around San Francisco
Day 13 - July 25th SF/Redwood City to Reno, NV
Day 14 - July 26th: Reno, NV to West Wendover, NV 
Day 15 - July 27th: West Wendover, NV to Little America, WY
Day 16 - July 28th: Little America, WY to Denver, CO


As for ourselves, we are planning a 12 day route, slightly different from Roy's plan, that would miss the rally, but follow the route down the coast.

This is obviously not an EMRAT trip but there were some discussions Tuesday about a west coast trip around the BMWMOA National Rally in Salem, OR this year.  The rally itself is July 18-21 at the county fairgrounds in Salem, OR.  Jay and I have tentative plans to leave Saturday July 13, 2013 with a group from the Colorado BMW club going through Utah, Idaho, Washington state then drop down into Salem on Weds the 17th.  If anyone is interested let Jay or me know.  If there is enough EMRAT interest in going out, we might join you folks instead of the BMW group. There appears to be no problem with a few more joining the BMW group either. The BMW group, once finalized, will post a route, rally points and time frames and they tend to meet at lunch or at the evening destination and not necessarily travel in an organized column with all members because some ride faster, some take pictures, some eat longer etc. The CO BMW group will include both campers and motelers along the route to Salem. At this point, getting hotel rooms at the Salem rally may be problematic but camping is open so no problem with that.  Jay and I will be staying in Oregon for the week after that (21-27) so you may want alternate plans for coming home.

I think Bob Tapper and Sean/Sarah are discussing going down the California coast after the BMW rally, I'll defer to them on posting their thoughts, routes and timing.
