Subject: INC Transportation Committee for 2013 starts Thurs., Jan 10th

Happy New Year!

The INC Transportation Committee will be meeting every other month in 2013, on the second Thursday of the month, 6:00 p.m. at 1201 Williams Street, 19th Floor.

We hope your neighborhood can send a representative to the committee as we discuss a range of transportation, transit, and streets topics, build connections with the agencies and organizations involved, and ensure that neighborhood input is included in plans at all levels!

Thursday, January 10th, 6 p.m.
We have three topics with speakers confirmed for our first meeting of the year:
  1. Denver Bike Infrastructure Vision & Plans -- John Hayden, chair of the Mayor's Bicycle Advisory Committee, will present the recommendations of that organization for the vision of bike infrastructure, safety, and integration in the city. Emily Snyder, Denver's Bicycle Planner in Public Works, will provide a perspective on which of the vision items are currently planned, which ones are longer-term with no implementation planned, and how neighborhoods can get involved in determining the priorities in their areas.

  2. Street Repairs - Prioritization and Timing With 2A's Passage -- Pat Kennedy, Street Maintenance Engineering Supervisor from Denver's Public Works, will present on how road work will be prioritized with the additional funds provided by the voters' approval of 2A, which news reports describe as 300 lane-miles of repair.

  3. FasTracks Downtown Denver Circulator -- Lacy Bell, RTD's project manager for the Downtown Denver Circulator, will present on the planning history and current budget issues facing this critical (and under-reported) piece of the FasTracks program: a free high-frequency circulator connecting Union Station to Civic Center Station via 18th and 19th Streets, terminating near the main Library in Golden Triangle, which will complement the 16th Street Mall shuttle and help distribute the large number of transit riders within the downtown area. The connection south of Colfax, envisioned in the Downtown Multimodal Access Plan (DMAP) and long-planned as part of the circulator, is now proposed for omission as a cost-saving measure, reducing the potential benefits of this new service.

2013 Meeting Schedule
The INC Transportation Committee's meeting schedule for the remainder of the year will be (all at 6pm, 1201 Williams St., 19th Floor):

  • Thursday, March 14th, 6 p.m.
  • Thursday, May 9th, 6 p.m.
  • Thursday, July 11th, 6 p.m.
  • Thursday, September 12th, 6 p.m.
  • Thursday, November 14th, 6 p.m.
